Are Cosmetics Causing Your Acne?
Cosmetics can cause acne. Acne caused by cosmetics is called acne cosmetica. This acne disappears after some days of stopping the use of the cosmetic.
In acne cosmetica small bumps that look like whiteheads form in a cluster. They do not grow to cysts and nodules. Chin and forehead are the common sites of acne cosmetica.
Acne Cosmetica- Causes
Cosmetics may contain different chemicals and natural products. When you apply the cosmetic these materials come in direct contact with your skin and cause acne. How the cosmetic causes acne is not known, but the study of comedogenicity shows that many materials cause skin irritation and acne.
Comedogenicity-
Comedogenicity tests are performed to find out about materials that cause acne. Every material is tested on rabbit ears and a list is prepared about the comedone-causing potential of the materials tested.
Acne Cosmetica- Care
- Please use cosmetics certified as non-comedogenic.
- If you find that you are having acne outbreaks after you begin using any cosmetic please stop using that.
- The best option is to stop using any cosmetic during acne outbreaks.

Acne & Sunshine
|
Despite the belief that acne gets cleared by sunshine, there is no scientific evidence to this. Excess sun can damage your skin rather than treating acne.
