Acne Treatments - Overview
To treat acne, we have to address the cause of acne. Acne is caused by
- The blocking of the follicle pore
- Presence of bacterium P.acnes inside the follicle and
- Excess sebum production.
The above changes occur because of hormonal imbalance, use of comedogenic products and other reasons.
Medicines are used to treat one or more of these causes. The choice of medication will depend upon the severity of acne and the possible reason of its formation. Hormonal treatment may be used for women who get acne due to hormonal imbalance. Antibiotics may be used if the acne is infected. Thus we use the medication depending upon the cause and condition of acne.
Acne may be treated with-
- Topical creams, gels, liquids etc.,
- Oral medicines such as antibiotics, Isotretinoin and Nicotinamide,
- Physical and surgical procedures and
- Light and laser therapy
