Acne Like Conditions
Some skin conditions may look like acne. They are:
- Keratosis pilaris,
- Perioral dermatitis and
- Rosacea.
Keratosis Pilaris
In keratosis pilaris, small skin-colored or reddish bumps form around the hair follicles. These bumps look like acne.
Keratosis pilaris can form on the upper back, arms, cheeks, thighs, etc. Unlike acne, keratosis pilaris is not associated with sebaceous glands. Keratosis pilaris is an inherited condition.
How to differentiate between acne and keratosis pilaris?
Keratosis pilaris always forms bumps around the hair follicles. The bumps don't get infected over time, which may happen in acne.

Perioral dermatitis
In perioral dermatitis, acne-like pustules/pimples form on the skin and the skin becomes reddish and scaly around the mouth. Perioral dermatitis may also spread to the nose, but most often it is the area around the mouth that is affected. Perioral dermatitis looks like acne. If you find that your acne around mouth is not going away, suspect perioral dermatis.

Rosacea
In Rosacea the facial skin becomes red with papules and pus-filled spots that look like acne. This disease is also called adult acne though there is no relation between rosacea and acne. If your acne is associated with redness all over the face, especially the nose, suspect rosacea.

Acne & Sunshine
|
Despite the belief that acne gets cleared by sunshine, there is no scientific evidence to this. Excess sun can damage your skin rather than treating acne.
