Acne Treatment With Oral Antibiotics

Bacteria P.acnes infects the sebum inside the follicle and sebaceous gland. This bacterium is responsible for pus-filled pimples and cysts. Antibiotics are used to kill the bacteria and speed up acne treatment.

How antibiotics work

Antibiotics work by killing the bacteria. They do not cause damage to the cells of the body. By killing the bacteria antibiotics reduce the infection and inflammation.

Antibiotics can be used topically, orally and by injection. In acne treatment, injections are rarely used because oral antibiotics quickly reduce the bacteria population. The antibiotics used orally for acne are: Erythromycin, Tetracycline, Minocycline, Doxycycline and Clindamycin. Some doctors also use the latest antibiotics. Acne & Sunshine

Despite the belief that acne gets cleared by sunshine, there is no scientific evidence to this. Excess sun can damage your skin rather than treating acne.
