Acne- Is It Contagious?

When a bacteria or virus is passed from one person to another, the disease caused is called a contagious disease. What about acne, is acne contagious? To find out if acne is contagious, let us understand what causes acne.

Acne is caused by:

  • Excess production of sebum due to hormonal changes in the body.
  • Blockage of the pores with dead skin cells. Blockages also happen due to hormonal changes.

The bacterium P.acnes that infects the sebum is found on the skin of all people. No other virus or bacteria is responsible for causing acne. Therefore nothing that you can catch from others can cause acne. Acne is not contagious.
