Lips
Lips are at the junction of the normal skin of the face and the mucosa of the mouth. If you see inside your mouth, you find that the skin is very different to what you see on your body. This is called mucosa. The lips join the mucosa and the body skin.
Have you noticed that your lips do not have any hair follicles? Lips also do not have any sebaceous glands. This deprives the lips of the protection that sebum provides to body skin. The protective dead skin layer called stratum corneum is also thinner on the lips compared to the body skin. That is why the lips require protection against the weather and other elements to remain healthy.
