Facts About Lichen Planus
- Lichen planus is not a type of cancer.
- Lichen planus on the skin shows up as red or purple colored bumps with white tops.
- Lichen planus in the mouth shows up as white lines with dots on the cheeks. But it can also appear on tongue, gums and lips.
- Lichen planus can affect the genitals of both men and women. Women are affected more than men.
- Lichen planus has no cure. Whenever it appears, you have to get it treated. Steroids, antihistamines are commonly used to treat lichen planus.
- Lichen planus in the mouth increases chances of oral cancer.
- Lichen planus can also affect nails and scalp.
