Chemical Peeling: Medium Depth Peels

Medium Depth Chemical Peeling

Medium depth peeling, as the name implies is stronger than superficial AHA peel but milder than deep peeling done with phenol. Trichloroacetic acid is the common chemical used to perform medium depth peels. Different concentrations of TCA may be used to perform medium depth peeling. Medium depth peeling may have to be repeated after some months.

Effects of medium peels:
TCA peels are commonly used to treat superficial skin spots, fine wrinkles, skin blemishes, uneven pigmentation, and other superficial skin problems that are not easily removed with superficial peeling.

About The Procedure:
The procedure for medium peeling with TCA may take about fifteen minutes. Generally no anesthesia is used as the chemical itself anesthetizes the skin. Your doctor may give you a little sedation to make you feel comfortable. Sometimes doctors prepare the skin for TCA peels by treating it with AHA or retinoid treatment for some days.

In this treatment, the face is washed thoroughly and dried and then TCA is applied over the required area. You will feel stinging sensation when the solution is applied. Some swelling, redness and blistering may appear after the treatment. That will go away as the new skin appears. Protection from sun is necessary after this treatment and it may be about a week or more before you can go back to work. It is important to discuss the procedure, the effects and any other question you may have with your doctor before you get a medium depth peel done.
