Care To Be Taken While Using Salicylic Acid

Salicylic acid should be strictly used as per the instructions of your doctor. If you are using an OTC preparation, read the label and instructions carefully and use accordingly. Over use of salicylic acid can harm you. If you have any problems such as diabetes, blood vessel diseases, influenza, chicken pox, any kidney or liver problem, you should talk to your doctor about the same before using salicylic acid preparations. Salicylic acid should not be used on irritated, bruised or infected skin, unless advised. Also inform your doctor if you are allergic to any color, ingredient, etc.

Don't use any of the following while using salicylic acid.

  • Any other topical preparation without doctor's advice.
  • Any alcohol containing preparation.
  • Cosmetics that can dry the skin.
  • Any abrasive body cleaners.

If you are pregnant, plan to get pregnant or are breast-feeding, talk to your doctor. Use any preparation on young children only after seeking proper medical advice.

Avoid getting salicylic acid into contact with eyes, mouth, nostrils, genitals, etc. If it comes in contact, wash the affected area thoroughly with water for fifteen minutes and consult the doctor immediately. Wash your hands thoroughly after every application unless your hands are being treated. Take care while using salicylic acid and it will help you get rid of many skin problems.
