Hair Loss Can Be Fought Better With Understanding
Losing hair can be traumatic. But more worrying is the acceptance of hair loss by most people. The acceptance that not much can be done about hair loss is because of not understanding the causes fully. Lets discuss the causes so that you can counter the hair loss.
The reasons for temporary hair loss may be many. Some cancer medicines will cause hair loss. Women lose lot of hair after pregnancy. Such reasons cause reversible hair loss. The hair may return after some time. More worrying is permanent hair loss that can be caused either by alopecia areata or by androgenetic alopecia.
Alopecia Areata & Androgenic Alopecia:
Alopecia means hair loss. Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease like vitiligo. In this, the body itself kills the hair. You may lose hair in patches and this hair may or may not come back. Your hair loss may be coin-sized, or you may lose all the hair. Hair loss in alopecia areata can occur on any hair bearing area including eyebrows.
In androgenetic alopecia (commonly called balding), the hair loss occurs because of genetic conditions and hormones. Men may lose all the hair, beginning with a receding hairline or a bald patch on the top of the scalp. Women suffering androgenetic alopecia don't normally lose all the hair, but experience hair thinning. This is an irreversible condition. Minoxidil and Finasteride can be used in both of these conditions.
