The precise causes of perioral dermatitis are not known. Use of cosmetics is thought to be one of the reasons. Prolonged use of steroid creams may be another reason. Dental products containing certain ingredients may be another reason. As this problem is more in females, hormones may have a role. Stress and sun exposure aggravate the dermatitis.
